Sweets4Troops in the Press

“Sweets4Troops” – Veterans giving BACK …

DeKalb, IL: Local DeKalb (IL) Businessman has created a program to support men and women serving our country in the Military. Michael Embrey, a veteran himself, started a collection of candy and treats to embellish holiday packages sent to Military members and Veterans. He was asked to share the concept of “Sweets4Troops” and how the idea evolved.

In the fall of 2014, as Halloween approached, the weather in the Midwest turned cold with freezing rain and snow mix, making it next to impossible to go “Trick or Treating” for almost everyone. As this was happening, Mr. Embrey received a call from another Military Help Group organization looking for donations for Holiday treat packages for military service members serving overseas. With many families and businesses overloaded with Halloween candy, Mr. Embrey started the first collection of leftover and unwanted candy and treats with a basic social media listing and local newspaper release. He was pleasantly surprised with the calls for support and the many donations that started to be delivered to his office complex. Within two weeks, he had collected over 250 pounds of candy. With that first year’s success, the concept was conceived and created for “Sweets4Troops” as an annual event. Mr. Embrey is hoping to make this a national program in the coming years, with regional and national organizations setting up to support the cause.

A new web site ( is being developed and should be up and running in the very near future. Donations will be accepted from November 1 to November 18 at select locations. Additional information is also available on social media, Facebook.

Michael Embrey is a military Veteran, having served as a musician with the famed “U.S. Air Force Drum & Bugle Corps/Band”. Mr. Embrey is also a member of “Bugles Across America” and “Buglers Hall of Fame” and has played TAPS at over 400 Military funerals. In June 2015, Mr. Embrey was awarded the opportunity to play TAPS at the American Cemetery in Normandy Beach, France. He is a member of the American Legion, “40&8”, and AmVets organizations.
